Tropical Smoothies to Make It Feel Like Summer
Posted on February 07 2018
It’s mid-winter and while the weather is freezing weather across much of the country, but we’re keeping the summer spirit alive in the kitchen with summer-inspired tropical smoothies.
No matter the season, smoothies are great year round. They are the perfect, easy way to incorporate lots of good, healthy fruits and veggies into your diet on a daily basis. There’s an endless variety of smoothies you can make, from green smoothies to berry-based ones and everything in between.
But right now, we’re especially enjoying tropical smoothies which make it feel like summer.
Here’s one great recipe from The Food Network’s Ina Garten:
1/2 ripe mango, peeled and seeded
1/2 ripe papaya, peeled and seeded
1 ripe banana
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup nonfat yogurt
1 teaspoon good honey
2 cups ice
In a blender, combine the ingredients and simply blend until smooth.
We also love this take on the tropical smoothie recipe from Good Housekeeping which incorporates ginger and lime. Both ginger and lime have great additional health benefits. This is especially important during the winter cold and flu season, so adding these ingredients to your tropical smoothie can provide you with an added boost.
So who cares what the calendar says? It might be mid-winter, but it’s still a perfect time to enjoy a delicious and healthy tropical smoothie, and have a little taste of summer anytime.
