Notes from The U.S. Open

Well, it’s that time again. I’m here in New York for the U.S. Open! With more than 700,000 ticket buyers each year, they say the U.S. Open is the most-attended annual sporting event in the world, and the crowd has a unique, electric energy that is unlike anywhere else.

It's hard to believe this is my 18th time playing the U.S. Open and it’s especially amazing when I think that it’s been 5 years since I was diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune condition that reduces my energy levels. To be able to be here again, under these beautiful and bright New York City lights, I feel grateful and blessed, and I realize that one’s health is truly everything. As long as I have my health, I can continue pursuing my passions, and go beyond my limits, beyond my best – which is what being an EleVen is all about. I’m so happy that I can keep competing and pursuing my dreams both on and off of the court.

As you know from visiting EleVenbyVenus.com, my love for fashion is evident but what you may not know is that I also share a love for interior design. I started my company, VStarr Interiors which shares the same office space as EleVen. One big family! That’s how I like to do things around here. Earlier this month, the New York Times hopped a flight to West Palm Beach to visit the team in action and get a closer look at what pushes me each and every day! The story ran on the front page of the Sunday Styles section and I absolutely LOVE how it looks!

In addition to the U.S. Open, New York is also getting ready for Fashion Week! Clothes and shoes, what is NOT to love! When I get some off-the-court down time, I love hanging out in Central Park and walking the city streets, people watching and taking in the variety of style.

SO many exciting things going on and Fall is here! There is NO place like the Big Apple! As Frank Sinatra said, “if I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere.” No matter what city you live in or what drives you day in and day out, always push yourself to become an EleVen!
