We hope your 2018 is off to an amazing start! We recently shared with you some of our New Year’s resolutions. From maintaining our yoga practice to upping our tennis game and paying extra attention to eating healthy, we’ve been really inspired by our 2018 resolutions, and hope that whatever resolutions you’ve made this year, you’re finding them to be motivating and inspiring, too.
Our priority now is to make sure we remain focused on our goals. How can we best position ourselves to ensure we keep our New Year’s resolutions? We found these helpful tips:
Link your goals: Studies show that having two related goals may lead to better success. For instance, if you want to lose weight, you can resolve both to cut sugar and to keep a food diary.
State your goals to others. The idea here is that if tell other people what you have resolved, you will be more likely to stick with it. Consider posting your resolutions on social media or creating a group text among family and friends to help keep one another on track.
Schedule time for your resolutions. Treat your resolutions as appointments and schedule time for keeping them. Whether it’s going to the gym, shopping at the health food store, preparing healthy lunches for the week, or making time to read or call a friend, put your commitments on your calendar and then honor these “appointments" just as you would if they were scheduled doctor appointments.
Don’t be hard on yourself. If you find yourself slipping back into old habits, don’t beat yourself up! Just because you overindulged on dessert or skipped the gym doesn’t mean you must now completely abandon your health goals. Remember that we all have ups and downs and get yourself back on track.
Treat yourself. Experts also advise celebrating little victories. Just sure the rewards you choose don’t undermine your goal. For instance, if your goal is to save money, don’t treat yourself by going on a shopping spree, and if your goal is to lose weight, don’t treat yourself to large fries. Give yourself positive rewards that support you in achieving your resolution.
What are your tips for sticking with your New Year’s resolutions? We’d love to hear how you are keeping focused on your goals for 2018!
