Healthy Snacks for the Holidays
’Tis the season and holiday celebrations are in full swing! It’s such a busy time of year, with shopping, travel, family get-togethers and of course parties. With so many changes to our usual routines, plus so many celebrations — which invariably involve lots and lots of food and drink - it can be a challenging time to keep up good eating habits. While it’s fun to indulge a bit during this festive time of year, as we kick off 2017, at EleVen we want to continue to look and feel better than our best.
Our strategy for staying fit through the holidays? Healthy snacks, which serve two important purposes. First, they keep us going through this busy season with lots of good energy. Plus, when we eat healthy snacks, we avoid becoming too hungry, which can lead to showing up at parties famished and making poor food choices. Whatever your holiday plans, keeping yourself fortified with healthy snacks can go a long way towards ensuring you close out 2016 in your best shape.
Here are some of our favorite healthy snacks for the holidays:
Jamba Juice Smoothies. Smoothies and green juices are Venus’ personal secret weapon for good nutrition. Smoothies made with almond milk, fruit and veggies are a great way to get tons of vitamins easily and on the go. Try unexpected additions like passionfruit and sweet potatoes.
Kind Bars. If your holiday plans involve travel, these bars, which are made with whole nuts, fruits, and whole grains, are great to have on hand with you while you are on the go. You can pack them in your bag, plus you can pick them up in many grocery stores.
Kale chips. Kale is another one of Venus’ top snacks. You can buy a package of kale chips at the store, or make your own. Just drizzle your kale with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, and then bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes until the edges turn slightly brown.
Nature’s Addict Fruit Sticks: Venus is also a fan of Nature's Addict Fruit Sticks, which are high fiber, non-GMO, and made with no preservatives, artificial sweeteners, food colorings or artificial flavors. Try flavors including apple, passion fruit, and mango fruit snacks and keep them on hand to satisfy holiday snacking urges.
Sweet Potato Fries: Rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, sweet potatoes are another satisfying snack. Slice a sweet potato, drizzle with oil, salt and pepper and bake until crispy for a delicious and healthy version of fries.
This holiday season, the right snacks can help ensure you stay energized and avoid becoming too hungry, which can lead to overindulgence. Of course, another key aspect to healthy holidays is exercise, and EleVen has everything you need to look amazing and keep moving this holiday season and throughout the new year.
